For math paper SA2 Set 5 paper 2 question 17, the answer key given was (a) 50km/h (b) 9.45am can anyone clarify with me if Steve travel by speeed 80km/h and when Ahmad reach Town Q faster than Steve by 40km how come Ahmad speed is slower(answer 50km/h) then Steve and he can still reach Town Q faster then Steve.
The length of a metal bridge is 1500m.It took 150 seconds to travel on this bridge. The whole train was on the bridge for 100 seconds.Find (a)the avervage speed of the train. (b)the length of the train.
That's an interesting you have there. Where did you get it from?
I suggest that you draw out a diagram to show the distance travelled by the train. You will also need to indicate the front and the rear of the train. The 150 seconds will be measured from the front of the train (at the beginning of the bridge) to the rear of the train (at the end of the bridge). So how do u think the 100 seconds will be measured? Do some reasoning and u will find the answer. The diagram will help a lot. Let me know if u need more clues. :)
It takes the train 25 seconds for the whole of it to get onto the track. 150sec-100sec=50sec, 50sec/2=25sec 150 is the time took for the train to travel on the bridge. 100 is the time the WHOLE train was on the tracks. Since the train entered and left, it is also counted as getting on the tracks for twice since the time for it to get on and off is the same. 100sec+25sec=125sec 1500m/125sec=12m/sec(a). Add the time the WHOLE train is on the tracks & the time taken for the train to get on the tracks, since the train's time through the track is only getting onto it and the time it is on the tracks and moving towards one little part of it is off the tracks.
Since it takes 25seconds for the train to get onto the tracks, 25secx12m/sec=300m(b).
Mr Soh, I will not be going to school tomorrow because all the ferries have been fully booked and I am still in Indonesia. I will come back to school on Tuesday.
Yay! I've finished all of them.. :)

ReplyDeleteThe length of a metal bridge is 1500m.It took 150 seconds to travel on this bridge. The whole train was on the bridge for 100 seconds.Find
(a)the avervage speed of the train.
(b)the length of the train.
Ans:(a)12m/s
(b)300m
What is the "it" in the question?
ReplyDeleteHi Yi Xiong,

Yay! I solved Yi Xiong's question.
ReplyDeleteIt takes the train 25 seconds for the whole of it to get onto the track.
150sec-100sec=50sec,
50sec/2=25sec
150 is the time took for the train to travel on the bridge. 100 is the time the WHOLE train was on the tracks. Since the train entered and left, it is also counted as getting on the tracks for twice since the time for it to get on and off is the same.
100sec+25sec=125sec
1500m/125sec=12m/sec(a).
Add the time the WHOLE train is on the tracks & the time taken for the train to get on the tracks, since the train's time through the track is only getting onto it and the time it is on the tracks and moving towards one little part of it is off the tracks.
Since it takes 25seconds for the train to get onto the tracks,
25secx12m/sec=300m(b).
Correct?
