  6. Hi Yi Xiong,

That's an interesting you have there. Where did you get it from?

I suggest that you draw out a diagram to show the distance travelled by the train. You will also need to indicate the front and the rear of the train. The 150 seconds will be measured from the front of the train (at the beginning of the bridge) to the rear of the train (at the end of the bridge). So how do u think the 100 seconds will be measured? Do some reasoning and u will find the answer. The diagram will help a lot. Let me know if u need more clues. :)

  7. Yay! I solved Yi Xiong's question.

It takes the train 25 seconds for the whole of it to get onto the track.
    150sec-100sec=50sec,
    50sec/2=25sec
150 is the time took for the train to travel on the bridge. 100 is the time the WHOLE train was on the tracks. Since the train entered and left, it is also counted as getting on the tracks for twice since the time for it to get on and off is the same.
    100sec+25sec=125sec
    1500m/125sec=12m/sec(a).
Add the time the WHOLE train is on the tracks & the time taken for the train to get on the tracks, since the train's time through the track is only getting onto it and the time it is on the tracks and moving towards one little part of it is off the tracks.

Since it takes 25seconds for the train to get onto the tracks,
    25secx12m/sec=300m(b).
