    MMVIII is the Roman numeral for 2008.

    I=1
    v=5
    x=10
    L=50
    C=100
    d=500
    m=1000

    8= v111
    therefore 2x of 1000 + 8
    =MM(2000) VIII(8)
    =MMVIII

    That's the way of maths the roman way.
