ReplyDeleteThe ratio of Maggie's stamps to the total number of stamps Paul, Steve and Joel had was 1:5. Paul had 1/4 of the total Maggie,Steve and Joel had. The ratio of Steve's stamps to the totsl stamps Paul and Joel had was 1:4. Joel had 675 more stamps than Steve.
(a) Find the ratio of Steve's stamps to Paul's stamps
(b) How many stamps did Maggie have?

1 : 5
1 x 5 : 5 x 5
5 : 25 = 30 units
Paul : Maggie + Steve + Joel
1 : 4
1 x 6 : 4 x 6
6 : 24 = 30 units
Note that the total number of stamps was the same.
Steve : Paul + + Joel
1 : 4
1 x 5 : 4 x 5
5 : 20
Maggie = 5 units
Paul = 6 units
Steve = 5 units
Joel = 25 – 6 – 5
= 14 units
a) Steve : Paul = 5 : 6
The ratio of Steve’s stamps to Paul’s stamps was 5 : 6.
b) Joel – Steve = 14 -5
= 9 units
9 units = 675 stamps
5 units = 675 x 5
9
= 375 stamps
Maggie had 375 stamps.
