She went to the market means that she could have gone to the market how many days ago and she had gone to the market means that in this particuler day she went to the market

Q:Tom had gone out a few minutes ago.He to the market. We must say he had gone as it is a past participle tense because it has already state that is past participle tense when it says Tom HAD GONE.
