The word "aparthied" is in Afrikaans language.
ReplyDeleteThe English and Dutch had ruled South Africa before.
The first European to reach the cape was the Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias in 1488, who named it the "Cape of Storms" (Cabo das Tormentas). It was later renamed by John II of Portugal as "Cape of Good Hope" (Cabo da Boa Esperança) because of the great optimism engendered by the opening of a sea route to India and the East.

ReplyDeleteCan I suggest that all of you find time to watch this movie, maybe even as P6D to watch "Invictus". It is showing now in the cinemas. On the surface, it is about rugby but it is really about the consequences of apartheid, and how Mandela decided to help the country reconcile through supporting their team -- the Springboks -- and forgetting the colour of their skin. Maybe, we can suggest to Mr Soh? See this scene to get an impression how inspiration gave hope to a country to achieve something that nobody believe they could and to recover from the ill-effects of apartheid.
