5. 3 apples and 2 oranges cost $2.40. 1 apple and 1 orange cost w cents. Find the cost of 1 apple in terms of $.
6. A pen cost $4 more than a notebook but $2 lesser than a CD. If the total cost of a pen, a notebook and a CD is $t, find the cost of a notebook in terms of $t.
7. The dimensions of a right-angled triangle ABC are in the ratio 3:4:5. Given that the perimeter of the triangle is x cm, (a) Express the shortest length of triangle in terms of x. (b) Given that x=24cm, find the area of the triangle.
8. Mary had an average score of 78 points over x number of tests. How many marks must she score for her next test so that she can get an average of 80 points?
9. Lilian, Siti and Janet shared $165. Lilian had $k more than Siti and twice as much as Janet. (a) How much does Siti have in terms of k? (b) If k=$8, how much does Siti have?
10. Mrs Lee worked out a saving plan for Jason. For every $6 Jason puts in, she would top up another $k into his bank account. After some time, the total amount saved in Jason’s account was $120. How much of this amount of money was contributed by Mrs Lee?
